Pendleton Summer Adventure Festival - August 28
Things are really coming together and though we still have some more work to do, we wanted to tell you the latest about our plans! The concept for the event is all day fun with something for all ages to do - bring your friends and/or your family. We're also trying to show off some of the unique and wonderful things about Pendleton. Oh yeah - there will be food and music too! Music and food info can be found in the left column - all of the fun is listed below.

Guests for the festival that travel 50 miles or more are eligible for special prizes and deals. Ask about them when you register at the event!
We have some great partnerships for this event and you'll see them mentioned as you read on. We also want to thank our amazing sponsors. Travel Pendleton is helping with music, marketing and prizes for geocaching. St. Anthony Hospital is also helping to fund the music.

Geocaching
This is a great opportunity to meet fellow cachers and swap tall tales and travel bugs. If you've never done any group geocaching, you'll have the chance to do so after the meeting. You don't have to be an Eastern Oregon resident to attend. Just come out and have some fun. If you have a Travel Bug, you can 'drop' it when you post a note that you are planning on attending. This includes Travel Bug you'd like to trade or just make available for discovery. To log the cache, show up at the event between the hours of 6:30 am and 11:00 am and sign the Official CEO Log Book. This event is open to all ages and experience levels. Thank you John Bradt for organizing this event.

Blue Mountain Flycasters
Come get to know this local club who will have a table with information about flyfishing. They will also have a supply of fly rods that they will be using to teach some basic techniques; stay tuned for news of a possible contest too. Tentative clinic time is 5:00-6:00 pm.
Disc Golf Tournament
Details are still developing here but the new nine against the hillside may come into play here. Some call the first nine a little tame but the second nine is anything but! The tournament will be a singles format - watch for reg form online. Check in at 5:00 pm at Hole #1 on the west side of park (across footbridge) and tee off at 5:45 for the first round to be held in daylight. After dusk, the second round night glow event will start at 8:15. LED lights for discs available at cost (est. $1.50). Prizes for longest putt, and closest to hole. Discussion still underway about a skills challenge during the day.
Ultimate Frisbee & Teen Dodgeball
Chris Schulze, 6th grade teacher at Sunridge MS, is putting together these two events that will take place during the afternoon in the open field at Community Park East. Ages 11+ are welcome to participate; bring your water bottle and text your friends to come because more kids = more fun! Games organizing beginning 1:00 pm near the shelter on 37th Street at Community Park East - show up and play! We'll follow it up with music that should appeal to younger ears - Exit 209, TDogg, and June Bug - on the stage under the trees.
Tiny Tot Olympics
Egg & spoon race, bug hunt, traffic lights, water balloon toss, tug-of-war and parachute bounce team contests, bean bag toss, ring toss, how high can I jump? (in the bouncy castle) contest, inflatable water slide and more! First 100 children will receive a gold medal for their efforts but all are welcome to participate. What a great time! Designed for ages 3 - 6 years. FREE! Also featuring the Children's Museum of Eastern Oregon who will be doing face painting. Events start at 11:00 a.m.
Inflatables
After Tiny Tots is over at about 2:00 p.m., we'll have the inflatable water slide and bouncy castle available for open play until around 5:00 pm.
Tour de Pendleton Ride
Ride Flyer
Ever thought about riding down Cabbage Hill, but you didn't want to ride up? Here's your chance! Pendleton on Wheels (POW) will rent a bus to carry people and a truck to carry bicycles up to Deadman's Pass. We will then ride down Cabbage Hill, through Mission, along the River Walk, and back to Community Park. For those who don't think they can do the whole ride, we'll station the bus in Mission to pick people up and bring them to the park. The ride is limited to 55 people. Meet at the Rotary Shelter at Community Park at 7:30 am to load up and get started before it gets too hot. Helmets and functioning bicycles are required. Bicycles with coaster (pedal) brakes will not be permitted. Distance is approximately 19.5 miles. Want to know more about POW - check out www.pendletononwheels.org
Please fill out and return this waiver form, which will be used as your official registration for the ride. You can fax it back to 541-276-9789, drop it off at 865 Tutuilla Road, or email it to Deb.Whittaker@ci.pendleton.or.us.
Pre-ride bike check on Saturday afternoon, August 21, at the old Pendleton Music House. Limited service will be available for a small charge.
Bike Rodeo
This one is for the kids, ages 5-10 years old! We'll use the tennis courts at Community Park East to do some rider education and safety training. We have a small supply of helmets available for distribution to people who cannot afford one. This is a great way to expose kids to some good education in a controlled environment. This is planned for Saturday afternoon, 8/28, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.
Climbing Wall and Pedal Cycles
The Oregon National Guard is bringing their very popular climbing wall and we'll have it set up most of the day, we're estimating from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. No age criteria, but for safe harness fit, kids should be 65 lbs. or more. They are also bringing their pedal cycles that we'll set up on the tennis courts.
Art to Fly
Kids 7-10 years old can use their creative skills to paint their own kite design and then, wind permitting, we'll give them a test fly at the park. Participation is limited to 20 kids so pre-registration at the event is important - Rotary Shelter will be open for registration beginning at 9:00 a.m.
ATV Education
Umatilla National Forest will be on hand to provide information about trail riding in the area - where to go, safety information, and more!
Horseshoe Tournament
This tournament will be preceeded by a beginners clinic to introduce people to the Pendleton Horseshoe Club and this sport. Registration for the tournament will start at Noon, with play to follow at about 12:30 pm. There will be two divisions, beginners (flingers) and advanced (ringers) with a $5 entry fee for each, and a 60/40 split for 1st and 2nd places.
